Sustainability & Community Impact
For Electric Yacht Raja Ampat, sustainability is not a marketing term; it is the fundamental principle upon which our company is built. Our very existence is a response to the need for a more responsible way to experience the fragile beauty of Raja Ampat. Our commitment is woven into every aspect of our operations, from the silent hum of our electric engines to our deep-seated partnerships with local communities. This is our pledge to ensure that the world’s last paradise remains pristine for generations to come.
Environmental Commitments: Beyond Zero Emissions
Our state-of-the-art electric yachts are the most visible sign of our commitment, but our environmental stewardship runs much deeper.
- Silent, Emission-Free Propulsion: Our core technology eliminates the two primary pollutants of conventional yachts: greenhouse gas emissions that harm the atmosphere and underwater noise that stresses and displaces marine life like whales, dolphins, and manta rays.
- Carbon Offset Program: While our propulsion is emission-free, we acknowledge the carbon footprint of our broader operations, including guest flights. We partner with the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve project in Kalimantan, a verified REDD+ initiative, to offset 150% of our calculated operational carbon footprint annually.
- Zero Single-Use Plastic Policy: We have completely eliminated single-use plastics from our guest operations. Guests are provided with reusable water bottles, and all amenities are supplied in refillable, biodegradable containers.
- Advanced Waste Management: Our yachts are equipped with marine-grade wastewater treatment systems that process black and grey water to a standard far exceeding international regulations before it is discharged. All solid waste is sorted, compacted, and transported back to Sorong for responsible disposal and recycling.
- Reef-Safe Practices: We provide complimentary, high-quality, reef-safe sunscreen to all guests. Our cleaning products are 100% biodegradable and phosphate-free. Anchoring is done only in designated sandy areas to prevent coral damage, a practice overseen by our experienced captains.
Community Empowerment: A Partnership with West Papua
We believe that environmental conservation is intrinsically linked to community well-being. We are not just visitors in Raja Ampat; we are partners with the people of West Papua who are the traditional custodians of this land and sea.
- Local Employment and Fair Wages: We are committed to a ‘Papuan First’ hiring policy. Over 80% of our crew members, from deckhands to our expert guides, are from local villages in the Raja Ampat regency. All employees receive competitive salaries, comprehensive health insurance through BPJS Kesehatan, and social security benefits via BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
- Community Development Fund: A percentage of every charter fee is allocated to our Community Development Fund. In partnership with village leaders in Arborek and Sawinggrai, this fund supports local priorities, such as educational scholarships, waste management infrastructure, and the preservation of traditional arts and crafts.
- Sustainable Local Sourcing: We prioritize purchasing fresh produce, fish, and other supplies from local markets and fishermen, paying fair market prices. This direct economic injection ensures that the benefits of tourism are distributed throughout the community. We avoid purchasing reef fish species that are vulnerable to overfishing.
- Cultural Immersion, Not Intrusion: Our cultural interactions are designed to be respectful and authentic. As guided by our cultural liaison from our team, we visit communities by invitation, support locally-owned homestays for specific excursions, and facilitate a genuine exchange that honors local traditions and privacy.
Our sustainability journey is one of continuous improvement. We constantly seek new technologies and methods to reduce our impact and increase our positive contribution. This commitment is verified through the rigorous process detailed in Our Methodology and reflects our deep-seated belief that true luxury is leaving a place better than you found it.
